Americano rules in short

Americano is the most popular social format in padel. Partners change every round, so you play with and against as many people as possible. Each match is played to a fixed number of points (for example 24), and every rally counts. Each player adds the points their team won to their own total. After the last round, the player with the most points wins.

Because everyone plays the same number of points per match, a fair schedule matters. Each player should get a similar number of games, different partners and a fair share of sit-outs. That is exactly what the generator optimizes.

Example: 8 players on 2 courts

With 8 players and 2 courts, nobody sits out and the generator creates 7 rounds. Across those rounds each player partners all 7 other players exactly once. At 24 points per match, a round usually takes roughly 10–15 minutes, so the whole Americano fits into about two hours.

With 9 players on 2 courts, one player rests each round. Over 9 rounds everyone rests exactly once.

Tips for organizers

  • Announce the points per match and the serving order before round 1.
  • Use a timer if court time is tight, and count only the points played when time runs out.
  • Want closer games after the first round? Try a Mexicano, where pairings follow the ranking.

Frequently asked questions

How many rounds should a padel Americano have?

With 8 players on 2 courts, 7 rounds lets everyone partner every other player exactly once. In general the generator suggests players − 1 rounds; set fewer if you are short on court time.

What if the number of players is not a multiple of 4?

Extra players sit out in turn. The generator spreads sit-outs so nobody rests more than one round more than anyone else, and players who just rested go back on first.

How many points per match?

16, 21, 24 and 32 are all common. Fewer points means more, shorter rounds. Enter one team’s score and the other side is filled in automatically.

Who wins an Americano?

The player with the most total points across all rounds. Ties are broken by number of wins, then point difference.
